Litchfield National Park – Waterfalls & 4WD Tracks Brookes Australia Tours strongly recommend Litchfield National Park to our clients that are travelling in family groups. Kids will love the crocodile free waterfalls feeding the natural rock swimming holes and adults will be able to enjoy a refreshing swim also. Parents can relax whilst the kids enjoy without doubt one of the highlights of their Top End holiday experience. The Park encloses much of the spectacular Tabletop Range, which is a wide sandstone plateau mostly surrounded by cliffs. During the monsoon season, from October to May, four major waterfalls thunder from the cliffs to tropical rock pools many metres below. During the rest of the year the waterfalls flow more gently, making them a perfect spot for swimming. Litchfield National Park is truly beautiful and located just south of Darwin. Litchfield features numerous monsoon rainforests, intriguing magnetic termite mounds, historical sites and billabongs or let us take you on the 4WD tracks into some of the more remote parts of Litchfield National Park. The Park’s traditional owners are the Wagait Aboriginal people, many of whom live in the area today. The region has a colourful pioneering and pastoral history and we include visits to sites such as the old Blyth Homestead ruins, built in 1929 but abandoned in the 1960s. These remaining buildings are a reminder of the tough conditions faced by the early pioneers of the Northern Territory. After our day's touring in Litchfield we choose to stay at the Lake Bennett Wilderness Resort which is within close proximity to the park entrance and the ideal place to watch the sunset over the lake with a cool drink at the end of the touring day.
