Tour highlights: Guluyambi Aboriginal guided river cruise, Yellow Waters cruise. Nanguluwur rock art sites, Ubirr rock art sites, Warradjan Aboriginal Culture Centre, Bowali Kakadu Park Headquarters Visitor Centre, Maguk waterfall, swimming, Fogg Dam, birds, wildlife. Accommodation is two nights at the Crocodile Hotel.

Saltwater Crocodile, Yellow Waters - KakaduDay 1: Depart Darwin accommodation at around 8am. Our first stop is Fogg Dam, a vast open wetland area that is home to large numbers of birds during our Top End dry season. Moving on we cross the Marrakai plains, the Adelaide and Mary Rivers before our morning tea stop at the Bark Hut Outback Pub. We then turn off the highway down the old Jim Jim 4WD dirt track into Kakadu with the opportunity for viewing bird and wildlife at waterholes along the way. After lunch we join a cruise on the famous Yellow Waters billabong, abundant with many species of birds and of course the mighty salt water crocodile. Later visit Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre. Tonight our accommodation is at the Gagudju Crocodile Hotel in Jabiru. (L)

Yellow Waters Cruise - KakaduDay 2: After breakfast we visit Bowali Visitor Centre and Park Headquarters and Marrawuddi Gallery before heading to Nanguluwur rock art and occupation sites. This site is less well known and well away from the crowds but has some excellent examples of rock art, including the rare and ancient dynamic figures. There are also the famous x-ray style art and so called contact period art when Aboriginal people had first contact with white man. Your guide will explain the art and culture of the area. After lunch we head south along the 4WD track to Maguk (Barramundie Gorge) spend the afternoon in this picturesque area. At the end of a monsoonal forest walk you can enjoy a swim in the refreshing natural plunge pool below a beautiful perennial waterfall. Tonight our accommodation is at the Gagudju Crocodile Hotel in Jabiru. (BL)

Contact Period Rock Art - KakaduDay 3: After an early breakfast we head further north along the Magela wetlands following the escarpment to the Ubirr rock art sites dated in excess of 20,000 years. Your guide will explain the art and its importance to local Aboriginal culture. There are excellent views overlooking Arnhem Land. Later join an Aboriginal guided cruise on East Alligator River. After lunch we begin our journey back to Darwin viewing wetlands and billabongs along the way. We take a break at the Bark Hut Outback Pub arriving in Darwin late afternoon. (BL)
